The software of iPad2 is nearly identical, yet improved than its older version. The iPad2 comes with the 9.7 inch, 1.24 x 768 display and a 1GHz dual core A5 CPU, though the device is a bit thinner and sleeker. At its thickest point, the tablet is just 0.34 inches and is about 9.5 inches in height, weighing 1.33 pounds. The choice of Wifi only model, a Verizon 3G version or an iPad of the AT&T/GSM variety are available. The common features of iPad2 include an ambient light sensor, an accelerometer and a three-axis gyroscope. The CPU and graphics enable a smooth performance of games and graphic applications.

The battery life promised by Apple for iPad2 is similar to the older version, with a significant lead compared to its competitors, even on heavy use such as 3G and WiFi on for applications such as browsing, news reading, picture or video taking, etc.  The new iOS 4.3 has enabled improved browser performance, added broader AirPlay support and has an added option to toggle the mute switch for rotation lock duties. The speed is attributed to the introduction of the Nitro JavaScript engine to the underlying Mobile Safari software.

Though iPad 2 may not be a perfect tablet, it has made its presence felt by being above the rest. The lack of Flash has limited the variety of videos and other graphics to be enabled in Apple. The other limitation is the camera, which has a lot of scope for improvement, though the front camera is the usual VGA cam.
